Missouri’s Katelyn Trevino wins SEC scholar-athlete of the year honor

Missouri senior gymnast Katelyn Trevino was chosen Thursday as the Southeastern Conference gymnastics scholar-athlete of the year.

The award was voted on by the conference’s coaches.

Trevino already has earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in Spanish and is working on a master’s of education in counseling psychology with an emphasis in positive coaching. She boasts a 3.967 grade-point average.

After missing most of the last two seasons with injuries, Trevino shined for the Tigers on the uneven bars and vault this season, including a career-high scores of 9.825 on the bars and 9.9 on the vault.

Senior Laura Kappler was an All-SEC selection and freshman Becca Schugel made the All-SEC freshman team based on their performances Saturday at the conference gymnastics championships.
