Mizzou’s Sophie Cunningham earns USA Basketball under-23 national team tryout
Missouri junior guard Sophie Cunningham is one of 40 players who were invited Tuesday to participate in the 2017 USA Basketball Women’s Under-23 National Team training camp.
Cunningham will vie for a spot on the 12-player national team July 31-Aug. 4 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The team will compete in the inaugural U23 Four Nations Tournament, which is set for Aug. 12-15 in Tokyo, with Australia, Canada and Japan.
“I am so blessed to have this opportunity to compete at one of the highest levels of women’s basketball,” Cunningham said. “I’m excited to represent our program, Mizzou and the Columbia community and give it my all at training camp.”
Cunningham was an Associated Press All-America honorable mention and All-SEC first-team performer last season after helping the Tigers to a third-place conference finish and a victory in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments for the first time in program history.
She averaged a team-high 17.5 points for Mizzou last season.
