Arkansas’ Bret Bielema has become wit of SEC football coaches
SEC media days misses the wit of former South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, who stepped down in the middle of last season. But Arkansas’ Bret Bielema has stepped up his humor game.
On attending the wedding of Russell Wilson, who he coached at Wisconsin: “I was at Russell’s wedding — not in the wedding, I just sat and watched. I was the guy in the eighth row in the outside seat.”
On how he learned Michigan had dropped a future series with the Razorbacks to play Notre Dame: “I was in Europe with my wife. We were on a train headed to Paris. ... My wife said, ‘Hey, there’s something about — on the internet — about a Big Ten team canceling with an SEC team.’ I said, ‘I don’t know anything about it.’ She said, ‘Really? Your picture’s right here.’ She’s real quick.”
On Arkansas fans: “I get a chance to travel this country all of the time, and when you come across an Arkansas fan, they let you know it. They let you know in a variety of different ways, yelling ‘Pig Sooie’ or ‘Woo Pig,’ a bump, interference that cuts you off in traffic.”
