Florida’s Jim McElwain not amused by stories about shark, bear
Jim McElwain’s meeting with reporters on SEC Media Days on Tuesday involved stories about sharks and bears, and neither one seemed to amuse the Florida coach.
The shark story dates to May, when a photo surfaced on social media of a naked man straddling what appeared to be a dead a shark in a boat.
The man looked like McElwain, so much so that the Gators had to issue a statement saying their head coach wasn’t the naked man straddling a shark.
“You know, I love the humor in it, all right, and yet, you know what, what it did, that actually not only attacked the university but attacked my family, when you know it's not you,” McElwain said “I bust chops with the best of them now, and yet when it got personal … ”
McElwain then went silent, almost emotional.
As for the bear, McElwain had a run in at his cabin this summer in Montana.
“It ran through the breezeway of the cabin, and it looked hungry,” he said. “But I'm not sure who was more scared, us or him.
“Just keep an eye on your pets. That would be the thing to do.”
