Final Four notes: Reggie Minton wins NABC’s Metropolitan Award

Reggie Minton, who joined the National Association of Basketball Coaches in 2000 after a long coaching career, will be honored with the NABC’s Metropolitan Award for outstanding service to the sport.

Minton served as an officer in the Air Force for 20 years before becoming the head coach at Dartmouth in 1983. He spent the next 17 years as the head coach at Air Force. Minton became an NABC associate director in 2000 and was named deputy executive director in 2004.

Minton, who lives in Stilwell, Kan., serves as chairman of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame selection committee and the NIT selection committee.

Former winners of the Metropolitan Award include John Wooden, Henry Iba, Adolph Rupp and Clair Bee. Minton will be presented with the award on Sunday night at the Final Four.

College Hall class introduced to Final Four crowd

The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame class for 2016 waived to some 70,000 fans at the Final Four on Saturday.

Mark Aguirre of DePaul, Doug Collins of Illinois State, Lionel Simmons of La Salle, UCLA’s Jamaal Wilkes and Georgia’s Dominique Wilkins join the late Bob Boozer of Kansas State as the players.

Hugh Durham, who took Florida State and Georgia to their only Final Fours, and Mike Montgomery of Stanford, California and Montana, are the coaches.

The 11th class will be inducted on Nov. 18 at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland in Kansas City.
