• ABOUT WICHITA STATE (34-0):The Shockers take the top record by any team ever into the NCAA Tournament. Wichita State should be comfortable playing in Scottrade Center, as the Shockers just won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament title there to get to 34-0. Wichita State is of course a heavy favorite against Cal Poly, but the Shockers have not taken any team lightly all season. They seem to be able to respect their given opponent, and then smother it. Wichita State is in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season.
• ABOUT CAL POLY (14-19):The Mustangs, as the No. 7 seed, won three Big West Conference tournament games in three days to get to the NCAA Tournament — then beat Texas Southern 81-69 in the play-in game on Wednesday. The Mustangs take care of the ball. They average nine turnovers per game and rank sixth nationally for fewest turnovers (297) committed. Last season Cal Poly ranked first in the nation for fewest turnovers. The Mustangs are in the NCAA Division I tourney for the first time in program history.
