Kansas City a finalist for upcoming Women’s Final Fours
Kansas City is a finalist to play host to a Division I Women’s Basketball Final Four, the NCAA announced on Thursday.
The years up for grabs are 2021 through 2024. Kansas City joins Cleveland, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Nashville and San Antonio as finalists to play host to the event.
The University of Missouri would serve as the event’s host school.
Kansas City has been the site of the women’s championship before, in 1998 at Kemper Arena, when Tennessee finished a 39-0 season by defeating Louisiana Tech for the title.
Sprint Center also has been home to two NCAA Volleyball Championships and numerous NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments. Kansas City will host a women’s basketball regional final in March.
“Our experience hosting major sporting events at the collegiate, national and professional level is extensive,” said Kathy Nelson, president and CEO of the Kansas City Sports Commission.
The future Final Four sites will be announced in October.
