On the heels of a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships, Kansas junior sprinter Michael Stigler earned a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles on Sunday at the USA Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.

Stigler’s second-place finish was a personal-best at the national meet — and the top finish by a KU male athlete since Jeff Buckingham won the U.S. title in the pole vault in 1983.

Stigler, a native of Canyon, Texas, ran a 49.63, just 0.7 seconds behind first-place finisher Johnny Dutch.
