Kansas defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux takes post at Oklahoma

Kansas defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux has been hired to the same position at his alma mater Oklahoma, a source confirmed to The Star on Tuesday night.

Thibodeaux, who spent one year at KU’s defensive line coach under David Beaty, played for Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops from 2002 to 2006. During that time, Thibodeaux played in four BCS bowl games.

It’s just the latest in a string of departures for KU’s coaching staff. Linebackers coach Kevin Kane left to become defensive coordinator at Northern Illinois, running backs coach Reggie Mitchell accepted the same position at Arkansas, and receivers coach Klint Kubiak took an offensive assistant job working with quarterbacks with the Denver Broncos.

In addition, special teams coordinator Gary Hyman was demoted to an off-field role after the 2015 season.

The turnover means KU will have more new assistants on its 2016 staff (five) than holdovers (four). Rob Likens (offensive coordinator), Clint Bowen (defensive coordinator), Zach Yenser (offensive line) and Kenny Perry (cornerbacks) are set to return next season.

Beaty filled two of his vacancies earlier this offseason, as Jason Phillips will be receivers coach and Todd Bradford will oversee the linebackers.
