Freshmen make contributions to KU victory over Kentucky
The Kansas freshmen class, perhaps as underused as any in recent years, logged some significant minutes on Saturday.
Carlton Bragg Jr., scored six points in 11 minutes. Chieck Diallo, who played a total of 4 minutes over the previous two games, was the game’s first sub and played 10 minutes. He chipped in a basket and three rebounds.
Guard Lagerald Vick got in a couple of minutes before halftime as Kansas worked around foul trouble.
Bragg and Diallo “bailed us out and did a great job,” KU coach Bill Self said.
Big 12 takes Challenge series
The Big 12 finished ahead in the Big 12/SEC Challenge 7-3. To Self, besides getting a quality victory, he liked the idea of beating a team that crushed the Jayhawks by 32 last season in the Champions Classic.
“Getting hammered like we did last year, we needed to be able to come back and get a quality win against a quality team,” Self said.
