Kansas football adds junior-college offensive lineman to 2014 class

The Kansas football program may have found an answer at a glaring position of need.

Former Iowa Western offensive tackle Larry Mazyck committed to Kansas on Monday, according to Rivals.com. Mazyck, a junior-college standout, will join the Jayhawks’ 2014 recruiting class and could push for immediate playing time this fall.

Mazyck, who is listed at 6 feet 8 and 340 pounds, had chosen to attend Maryland before finding out last month that he would not be able to enroll at the school. Mazyck signed a national letter of intent with Maryland last December, but a trail of academic red tape delayed his arrival, according to the Washington Post. After learning that Maryland would not be an option, Mazyck reopened his recruitment and took a visit to Kansas this last weekend.

“It all happened fast,” Mazyck told Rivals. “They told me they like my size and aggressiveness. They told me I would have a chance to come in and contribute right away.”
