Kansas’ Perry Ellis on Tuesday was selected to the John R. Wooden Award preseason watch list, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced in a news release.

Ellis, a senior power forward, was among 50 players on the preseason list for the Wooden Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best player.

Ellis, a Wichita native in his final season, appeared on the Wooden preseason list for the second straight season. Ellis, who is 37th on the KU career scoring list with 1,173 points and 24th on the school’s all-time rebound chart with 614 boards, is on pace to become only the eighth Jayhawk in school history to rank in the top 15 of both categories.

Diallo not in Chicago

Kansas freshman forward Cheick Diallo remained at home in Lawrence as Kansas traveled to the Champions Classic in Chicago. Diallo, who is still awaiting word from the NCAA Eligibility Center, would have required a waiver to travel with the team.

When asked about Diallo’s status on Monday night, Self said it was “not likely at all,” that Kansas would receive an update on Diallo’s status before Tuesday’s game.

Vick nursing eye injury

KU freshman wing Lagerald Vick was unavailable on Tuesday after suffering an eye injury earlier this week. Vick traveled with the team to Chicago and is expected to return to action later this week.
