Kansas eliminated from Big 12 baseball tournament

Now Kansas will wait.

The third-seeded Jayhawks went two-and-done at the Big 12 baseball tournament, falling 4-3 to No. 7 seed Baylor in an elimination game on Thursday morning at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Okla. The loss came just 24 hours after KU opened the tournament by losing to No. 6 West Virginia.

The Jayhawks, who dropped to 34-24 on the season, appeared to be close to an NCAA tournament lock after finishing third in the Big 12 regular-season standings. But after a winless trip to the Big 12 tournament, it could be a nervous weekend for Kansas coach Ritch Price and his team. The NCAA baseball tournament selection show is on Monday morning.

The Jayhawks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Thursday, manufacturing a run on a walk, a single and a sacrifice fly from third baseman Tommy Mirabelli.

But Baylor struck back against Kansas starter Frank Duncan, busting out for four runs in the bottom of the third. Duncan, a senior right-hander, would settle down and last seven innings. But the Jayhawks could only muster two more runs on a two-run double from Connor McKay in the top of the sixth.
