High school of KU basketball signee Cliff Alexander forfeits wins, title

Curie High, the Chicago school attended by Kansas basketball signee Cliff Alexander, has forfeited its 24 victories and a city title after an investigation found the school played with seven ineligible players this season.

The Chicago Sun-Times first reported the news

after the Chicago Public Schools released its findings on Friday in a statement. The ineligible players were not named.

According to the Sun-Times, the players would have been eligible if the proper forms were filed with the Chicago Public Schools office. Curie is still be eligible for the Illinois High School Association tournament because the state association has different rules than the Chicago Public Schools.

In the statement, the Chicago Public Schools said students are required to have a 2.0 grade-point average or have a signed certified “Individual Study Plan.” To meet the Illinois High School Association requirements, “students must be passing five courses and achieving a minimum of 2.5 credits at the time of the tournament.”

Last week, Alexander led Curie to a four-overtime victory over Whitney Young in the Chicago city championship game. Alexander outdueled Duke-bound senior center Jahlil Okafor, a Whitney Young senior and the consensus No. 1 player in the country. Alexander, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is rated as Rivals’ No. 4 overall player.
