Two Kansas signees, one recruit picked for McDonald’s All-American game

Andrew Wiggins opened the game with a smooth three-pointer, foreshadowing a hot night from the field.

Perry Ellis shot seven of eight from the floor.

Wiggins drew an intentional foul on Iowa State’s Dustin Hogue, sparking a personal 6-0 run that helped close the game.

Kansas shot 10 of 22 from the three-point stripe.

The rosters for the McDonald’s All-American Game are officially out — and Kansas recruits will be included for the third straight year.

KU signees Cliff Alexander and Kelly Oubre were officially selected to the game on Wednesday night, burnishing their credentials as two of the top recruits in the country.

Alexander, a 6-foot-8 power forward at Curie High School in Chicago, and Oubre, a 6-7 small forward from Findlay Prep in Las Vegas, will take part in the high school showcase April 2 in Chicago.

KU is still recruiting Myles Turner, a 6-foot-11 center from Euless, Texas, who was also selected to the McDonald’s roster. Kentucky and Duke led the way with four McDonald’s All-Americans each.

• Freshman guard Conner Frankamp missed the game after suffering a knee injury earlier this week in practice. Frankamp, who is averaging 6.3 minutes per game this season, was in street clothes on the bench.

“The X-rays are negative, so he’s just got a bruised knee,” Self said. “But I’m not overly optimistic that he’s going to be back tomorrow. I think it’s day-to-day, but I think he’s going to out a little bit.”

• Senior forward Tarik Black missed his second straight game because of an ankle injury despite suiting up this time. Self said Black maybe could have played, but the fast pace of the game would have limited his productiveness.

“That would be a hard game for a guy on one leg,” Self said.

• Royals first baseman Billy Butler and right-handed pitcher Jeremy Guthrie were both in attendance, sitting behind the KU bench. Also sitting behind the KU bench: Grammy nominated rapper TreySongz, who was announced as a Jayhawk fan during the second half. TreySongz grew up near KU freshman Frank Mason in Virginia.

“Bottoms Up,” Self joked, referencing one of his hits. He later admitted: “I Googled it.”
