KU basketball’s Darryn Peterson will only work out with one NBA team, report says
With the NBA Draft just about a week away, one thing is clear: Kansas star Darryn Peterson wants to be picked first overall by the Washington Wizards.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Woo and Shams Charania, Peterson has reportedly only visited the Washington Wizards and does not plan to work out with any other team. According to the report, Peterson has had multiple on-court workouts in front of the Washington Wizards’ front office.
Meanwhile, BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, who’s in contention for the No. 1 pick, has worked out with the Wizards and the Utah Jazz. The Jazz currently hold the No. 2 overall pick.
Multiple NBA sources continue to indicate it’s unclear which of the two players will be picked first.
This maneuver by Peterson and his camp aligns with The Star’s previous reporting that the draft order is viewed favorably by Peterson’s camp.
Despite not working out for the Jazz, Peterson has still interviewed with them and a number of other NBA teams picking high in the NBA Draft.
Two league sources with different lottery teams said that Peterson interviewed quite well. Both of those sources have indicated that Peterson is clearly more on the quieter side compared to Dybantsa.
Despite an up-and-down season for Kansas, Peterson averaged 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. He shot 43.8% from the field, including 38.2% on 3-pointers.
The NBA Draft is set for June 23-24 in Brooklyn.
