KU freshmen Davion Adkins, Taylen Kinney to attend USA Basketball training camp

Kansas freshmen Davion Adkins and Taylen Kinney will participate in the 2026 USA Basketball Men’s Under 18 National Team training camp which starts May 21 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, it was announced Friday.

In all, 35 competitors will gather in hopes of securing a spot on a 12-member USA team that will compete in the 2026 FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup June 1-7 in Leon, Mexico.

Training camp participants will represent the graduating classes of 2026, 2027 and 2028. Athletes attending camp are selected by the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Committee.

Adkins, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward from Arlington, Texas, competed for (38-4) Prolific Prep this past school year in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Arlington, Texas, native, who has a 7-foot-2 wingspan, will arrive at KU as ESPN.com’s No. 64-rated player in the recruiting class of 2026.

Kinney, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard out of the Overtime Elite program in Atlanta, averaged 18.8 points, 6.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game his senior season.

Kinney, a native of Newport, Kentucky, will enter KU as the No.13 rated player in the class according to ESPN.com.

Adkins and Kinney in 2024 and 2025 both attended minicamps for the USA Men’s Junior National Team. Also, in 2024 both attended the Men’s U17 National Team minicamp. Kinney also participated in the training camp for the 2025 USA Men’s U19 National Team.

Other members of the class of 2026 to attend U18 minicamp: Tarris Bouie, Bruce Branch III, Quentin Coleman, Sam Funches, Caleb Gaskins, Bryson Howard, Josh Irving, Jasiah Jervis, Colben Landrew, Dhani Miller, Dylan Mingo, Bo Ogden, Baba Oladotun, Ethan Taylor, Kevin Thomas and Anthony Thompson.

From the class of 2027: Scottie Adkinson, Reese Alston, Dawson Battie, Chase Branham, Jalen Davis, Jaxson Davis, Demarcus Henry, Ahmad Hudson, Jaydn Jenkins, Malachi Jordan, Moussa Kamissoko, J’Lon Lyons, Kevin Savage III, Davion Thompson, Josh Tyson and Darius Wabbington.

Adan Diggs will represent the class of 2028.

Training camp will be led by U18 National Team head coach Anthony Grant (Dayton) and assistant coaches Matt Langel (Colgate) and Nate Oats (Alabama).

Assisting as court coaches during training camp: Dennis Gates (Missouri), Greg Kampe (Oakland), 2026 Dusty May (Michigan) and Ritchie McKay (Liberty). McKay will return to USA Basketball for the first time since winning gold as an assistant coach at the 1997 World University Games, while Gates, Kampe and May will make their USA Basketball coaching debuts.
