Kansas Jayhawks add 7-footer to basketball roster in Charleston’s Christian Reeves
Christian Reeves, a 7-foot-2, 255-pound senior-to-be men’s basketball center from College of Charleston, has decided to transfer to Kansas, he reported on Friday on Instagram.
Two sources close to Reeves’ recruitment confirmed the commitment to The Star.
Reeves, who recently visited KU as well as Michigan State, averaged 11.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for the Cougars this past season. He hit 65.4% of his floor shots and 60.4% of his free throws. Overall, he logged 21.4 minutes per contest.
Reeves, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, started his college career at Duke (2022-23) where he played in 13 games in 2022-23 and three games in 2023-24. He missed 13 games because of injury before undergoing right-ankle surgery and being ruled out for the remainder of the 2023-24 season at Duke. He was a medical redshirt that season.
Reeves moved to Clemson in 2024-25 where he averaged 1.2 points and 1.5 rebounds across 29 games (one start, 5.1 minutes per outing). He played just 145 minutes all season because of injuries.
He earned third-team all-Coastal Athletic Association honors this past season at Charleston.
Reeves in high school was a four-star center out of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. He was ranked as the No. 5 player from the state of North Carolina in his class by ESPN.
He played in 29 games during the 2021-22 season at Oak Hill, averaging 9.2 points on 63.9% shooting with 7.4 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures in 12 games as a senior, including each of his final five contests while recording five double-doubles. Reeves played for Team CP3 on the Nike EYBL circuit.
On Dec. 14, 2021 Reeves chose the Blue Devils over Minnesota and South Carolina, among others.
After he signed with the Charleston Cougars a year ago, coach Chris Mack said: “He is an agile, athletic big man that has his best basketball ahead of him. He’s been incredibly well coached and ready to contribute for the Cougs.”
Reeves is KU’s third transfer pickup. Former Utah forward Keanu Dawes and former Toledo guard Leroy Blyden Jr. have signed financial aid agreements with KU. KU guard Kohl Rosario and center Paul Mbiya return off the 2025-26 roster. KU has signed incoming freshmen Taylen Kinney, Davion Adkins, Luke Barnett and Trent Perry.
Several Jayhawks on the 2025-26 roster have entered the portal and chosen new schools: Flory Bidunga (Louisville), Elmarko Jackson (Georgetown), Bryson Tiller (Missouri), Jamari McDowell (Wake Forest), Samis Calderon (Butler) and Corbin Allen (has yet to pick school at this time).
