KU basketball lands first transfer portal commitment. He’s a Big 12 forward
The Kansas Jayhawks are officially on the board.
Former Utah forward Keanu Dawes will transfer to KU basketball, his agent Brandon Grier confirmed to The Star on Thursday morning.
Dawes will also go through the NBA Draft process while maintaining his college eligibility.
Dawes is KU’s first pickup in the portal. He visited Lawrence on Tuesday night.
Dawes averaged 12.5 points and 8.8 rebounds for Utah last season. The 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward shot 31.4% on 3-pointers. He started all 32 games he played in last season. He also scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds when facing the Jayhawks.
Before playing for Utah, he played a season at Rice. He started in 23 of 32 games that season.
Dawes joins a KU roster that still has seven or eight roster spots remaining. At the moment, Kohl Rosario is KU’s only returning rotation player from last season.
That said, big man Paul Mbiya is expected to make an announcement soon on whether he will return.
The Jayhawks will also bring in a slew of freshman including Taylen Kinney, Davion Adkins, Luke Barnett and Trent Perry.
