Why Darryn Peterson missed end of KU basketball vs. NC State: Bill Self’s update
Kansas freshman guard Darryn Peterson, who has missed seven full games this season because of tightness in his hamstring, exited Saturday’s game at North Carolina State with 2:15 to play in regulation.
He took himself out, ostensibly because of the same tightness that’s pestered him all season.
“I think he was getting tight. I haven’t talked to the doctor yet or the trainer about it, but he said he needed to come out,” coach Bill Self said after KU basketball’s 77-76 overtime win. “He’s experienced this every game that we’ve played, so I was happy that he got that far, that deep into the game, because it’s happened to start the second half every other game.
“I think it’s just tightness, but I haven’t even found out yet.”
Peterson, who scored 17 points, with five rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes, left the arena for the team bus walking without a limp.
His status for Tuesday’s game against Towson was not disclosed by Self after Saturday’s overtime win.
“Just tightness in his hamstring,” Self stated when asked a follow-up question about the guard’s condition.
With Peterson sitting late, guard Melvin Council Jr. scored 36 points to lead KU’s win.
