  • KU coach Bill Self confirms freshman guard Corbin Allen will redshirt 2025-26.
  • Allen will practice with KU but sit out regular season to retain eligibility.
  • Self weighs further redshirt decisions amid transfer portal impacts before opener.

Kansas freshman guard Corbin Allen, who was deemed a possible redshirt candidate by KU coach Bill Self back in May when the Oak Park High standout committed to KU, indeed will practice but not play in games this season, coach Bill Self said Tuesday night.

Allen, a 6-foot-6, 175-pound two-time DiRenna Award winner, played 2 minutes, 28 seconds in the Jayhawks’ 71-35 victory over Fort Hays State Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse. He was 0-for-4 shooting with two rebounds, one blocked shot and a foul.

Self said he did not yet know if any other players would redshirt the 2025-26 season. He’ll have to decide by Monday, when KU opens the regular season against Green Bay (7 p.m., Allen Fieldhouse).

“Corbin is going to (redshirt),” Self stated. “You can write that. After that I really don’t know yet. You know, in today’s time with the (transfer) portal and all that stuff, it’s kind of how do you do it? Do you plan for the long-term future? Or do you just try to do what’s best for today and then recruit tomorrow based on today’s results? So I don’t really know yet, but I would say Corbin is (redshirting) for sure.”

Players can compete in exhibition games even if they ultimately redshirt. They cannot play in regular season contests if they wish to sit out the season and retain four years of eligibility.
