After a tough loss to Missouri on Saturday, Kansas football is in the midst of an off week.

It’s the first of three this season, after KU (2-1) started the season with a Week 0 win against Fresno State.

Coach Lance Leipold broke down KU’s bye-week schedule on Saturday.

“Our bye week right now is still going to be like a lot of other ones, where we’ll just watch the film and they’ll do a lift Monday,” Leipold said. “We will practice Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and then they will lift and run on Friday. Off on Saturday and we will practice next Sunday as we continue to prepare for West Virginia.

“The coaches will be out recruiting some. There’s no off weeks in this thing, so we know that. And again, we will have to keep working at it.”

Leipold believes the Jayhawks have plenty to learn from after making several mistakes vs. Missouri.

“As I told them, there’s not punishment practices — that’s a thing of the past,” he said. “You’ve got to get back to what you’ve got to work on. We’ve got to find ways to correct what we’re doing, whether it be fundamentally or assignments or whatever the case may be across the board. (Sunday) morning when we meet with the staff we will talk about what those particulars are and we will keep working at it.”

Despite the tough loss, Leipold remains optimistic about his squad.

“This early in the season, we have a lot of football to play,” he said. “A lot of football to play and I’m confident this group will continue to work hard and be a good football team.”

Kansas returns to action on Sept. 20 against West Virginia, as Big 12 play gets underway. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

Like Leipold, Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels aims to move forward from the loss to Missouri. Daniels finished 18-for-30 passing for 223 yards and three total touchdowns vs. the Tigers. He also fumbled twice and threw a pick.

“In life, you’re always going to have adversity at one point, and it’s all about how you handle adversity,” Daniels said. “Today, we ran into a lot of adverse situations. Coming from this game, we are going to have to go back into the lab.

“Come Monday, we believe in having a 1-0 mentality. So we are going to go ahead and put our heads down, go to work and get ready for Big 12 play.”
