Former KU basketball guard Noah Shelby chooses his transfer destination

Former Kansas guard Noah Shelby, who entered the NCAA transfer portal on July 8, has decided to play basketball at Texas A&M during the 2025-26 season, his dad confirmed to The Star.

Shelby, a 6-foot-3 guard from McKinney, Texas, redshirted the 2024-25 season at KU. He on Sunday joined former KU teammates/Texas natives Rylan Griffen and Zach Clemence, who also this offseason transferred to the SEC school.

Griffen is from Dallas and Clemence San Antonio.

Shelby, an invited walk-on at KU, last played at Rice during the 2023-24 season where he averaged 3.9 points and 1.0 rebounds in 30 games. He started his career at Vanderbilt in 2022-23, averaging 3.7 points a game in 14 games. In his two years, he’s made 32.5% of his 3s and 34% of his shots overall.

Shelby has two years of eligibility remaining at A&M. Shelby was able to enter the portal this summer because of a new transfer window created for so-called “Designated Student Athletes,” or DSAs. The transfer window opened in July and closes Tuesday. This classification took effect recently following the finalization of the House vs. NCAA settlement.

Shelby was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, ranked No. 17 at the point guard position by 247Sports in the class of 2022.

Several KU players off the 2024-25 roster have surfaced at other schools. The three new A&M players are joined by AJ Storr (Mississippi), Rakease Passmore (Maryland) and David Coit (Maryland).

KU has added transfers Melvin Council Jr. (St. Bonaventure), Jayden Dawson (Loyola-Chicago), Nginyu Ngala (Laurentian) and Tre White (Illinois). Other newcomers: freshmen Corbin Allen, Samis Calderon, Paul Mbiya, Darryn Peterson, Kohl Rosario and Bryson Tiller.

New A&M coach Bucky McMillan has added 11 players from the transfer portal. The group includes former Creighton guard Pop Isaacs and former Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbako.
