NBA’s Pelicans announce signing of former KU Jayhawks center Hunter Dickinson

The New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday announced the signing of former Kansas center Hunter Dickinson to a two-way contract.

The announcement also included the signing of former Creighton guard Trey Alexander to a two-way deal.

Dickinson had agreed to a two-way contract with the Pelicans shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 NBA Draft as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. Dickinson was not selected in the two-round draft which wrapped up June 26.

Per team policy, terms were not disclosed. A two-way contract allows teams to sign players who can split time between the NBA team and its G League affiliate. The Pelicans’ G League team is in Birmingham, Alabama.

Two-way players can be active for up to 50 NBA regular-season games, with the rest of their time spent in the G League. A two-way deal according to hoopsrumors.com carries a salary of $636,000, which becomes guaranteed if the player remains under contract through Jan. 7.

The Pelicans at this early date have filled all three of their two-way slots. New Orleans has carried over Lester Quinones from last season on a two-year two-way deal.

Dickinson, who turns 25 in November, averaged 17.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.3 blocks in 34 games (all starts) last season at KU. He was named third-team All-America by the AP and USBWA. He scored in double figures in 32 games and posted a double-double in 16 games.

The 7-foot-2 native of Alexandria, Virginia, appeared in 161 games (156 starts) over five collegiate seasons between Michigan (three seasons) and KU (two seasons), averaging 17.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 blocks in 30.8 minutes per game.

Dickinson will play for the Pelicans summer league team in Las Vegas. The Pelicans will play five games, the first against Minnesota at 2:30 p.m. Central on July 10.
