Kansas Jayhawks land coveted class of 2026 hoops prospect. He’ll reclassify to ’25
After a lengthy pause between roster additions, the Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team landed a big pickup on Tuesday.
Kohl Rosario, ranked the No. 27 in the class of 2026 by Rivals, will reclassify to the class of 2025 and join KU as coach Bill Self’s latest recruit.
Before his commitment, Rosario — a shooting guard — had upcoming recruiting visits planned to Texas A&M (June 22), Duke (June 26) and Baylor (June 29).
He visited Lawrence last week.
“The visit was amazing,” Rosario told The Star. “Everyone there was very hospitable. I had a great time and I had a great time talking to the coaches. We did a tour and we saw a lot of the history of Kansas basketball.
“I mean, the guy that invented basketball, he coached there. There’s so much history and so much to play for at Kansas.”
The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Rosario played in the Overtime Elite program. He picked Kansas over Duke, Oregon, Florida State, Miami and other schools.
Self spoke highly of Rosario.
“We’re very excited to add Kohl this year’s team,” the KU coach said in a news release. “It’s not often there’s a player of his potential to become available at this point. We feel that what Kohl brings from a perimeter athletic shooting standpoint is something that we’ve needed to add to this year’s roster.
“He is one of the hardest working youngsters that we’ve ever recruited and feel the transition to college ball will be more seamless due to this. He’s been very well drilled, and I think his competitiveness will add of piece to our culture.”
Rosario also played for the YNG Dreamerz, who won the 2024-25 Overtime Elite championship. He averaged 13.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.1 assists per game during OE’s postseason tournament.
Rosario’s play during the NBPA Top 100 camp in Rock Hill, South Carolina, attracted the attention of many college programs. He also plays for Team CP3 on the summertime Nike AAU circuit.
During this year’s circuit season, he is averaging 14.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. He’s also shot 44.4% on 3-point attempts.
The Jayhawks now have three roster spots remaining.
