KU basketball’s Big 12 opponents are out. It’ll look (much) different from past years

The Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team has learned its Big 12 Conference opponents for the 2025-26 season.

The Jayhawks will play 18 league games, after playing 20 last season. With 16 teams in the league, that means things will look very different this year.

Namely, after playing five teams in home-and-home action last year — and all nine opponents home-and-home when the Big 12 had 10 teams — that list is now down to three.

Specific dates and times, along with television details, will be announced at a later date. The release said opponents were selected based on a balance of travel and competitiveness.

Notably, the Jayhawks will continue to play home-and-home series with rivals Kansas State and Iowa State. They will also face Arizona in home-and-home action.

Still, to many KU and college basketball fans’ dismay, the Jayhawks will only host NCAA Championship runner-up Houston at Allen Fieldhouse. The teams met twice last season.

On top of that, KU freshman Darryn Peterson — the No. 1 overall recruit in 2025 per 247Sports — will only face high school rival and No. 2 overall recruit AJ Dybantsa (BYU) once in the regular season at Allen Fieldhouse.

KU basketball’s Big 12 opponents

  • Home: Baylor, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, TCU and Utah
