Every day is Christmas for Jon Gruden.

The Super Bowl-winning coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and media personality for Barstool Sports has turned opening boxes of sports merchandise and memorabilia into a social media thing. One of the latest gift packages arrived from Lawrence.

“Lance Leipold,” Gruden began his box-cutting commentary. “What a job he’s done with this football program.”

And out comes the football helmet, shoes, sweats, shirts and more.

Gruden did his homework, going through the names of former KU stars: Aqib Talib, Chris Harris, Gale Sayers, John Riggins, Wilt Chamberlain, JoJo White, Paul Pierce and more.

This comes about a month after Gruden, who coached the Raiders from 2018-2020, posted a similar video opening a box from Kansas State.

“Chris Klieman, head coach at Kansas State, what a helluva coach,” Gruden said. “This is where freakin’ Steve Grogan went to college. Lynn Dickey. Friend of mine, Josh Freeman went there. How about Darren Sproles coming out of the backfield?”

And out came the purple swag.
