Kansas Jayhawks projected as top-4 NCAA Tournament seed in first rankings release
The first look at the 2025 NCAA Tournament’s top 16 teams has been revealed, and the Kansas Jayhawks — as of Feb. 15 — are a top-4 seed.
As revealed on the NCAA March Madness Bracket Preview show, KU is projected as the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Regional. Kansas was rated as the No. 15 team overall, according to the selection committee.
If the Jayhawks were to make it out of the first weekend in that region, they would play Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games in Indianapolis. The last time KU made it past the first weekend was in 2022, when Kansas won the NCAA Championship.
The Jayhawks were a No. 4 seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament and lost in the second round to Gonzaga.
Kansas (17-7, 8-5) has had an up-and-down season. The Jayhawks entered the year ranked No. 1 in the country and earned impressive wins in nonconference play — notably over Duke, UNC and Michigan State.
Unfortunately for KU, conference play hasn’t been as smooth sailing. The Jayhawks have five conference losses, including two at home.
The rankings reveal came before Saturday’s 9 p.m. game against Utah at Jon M. Huntsman Center, with the Jayhawks looking to record a second straight win after hovering around .500 for much of conference play.
The three other teams in the projected Midwest Regional are No. 1 seed Alabama, No. 2 Purdue and No. 3 Iowa State.
