Kansas football lands former 4-star edge rusher as transfer from Texas Longhorns

A whirlwind offseason of change continued for the Kansas football team on Monday.

The Kansas Jayhawks landed former Texas edge rusher Justice Finkley. His agency, A&P Sports, announced the news on Monday morning.

Finkley has one year of eligibility remaining. The edge defender played in five games in the 2024 season and finished with five total tackles.

According to Pro Football Focus, he played 529 total snaps in his three years at Texas. He notched 26 total tackles — including 3 1/2 tackles for loss — 2 1/2 sacks and one forced fumble.

He’s the 22nd transfer portal pickup for KU — and a particularly big one at that. Several seniors on the defensive line, including Jereme Robinson, Ronald McGee and Dylan Wudke, exhausted their eligibility in 2024.

Finkley, a native of Trussville, Alabama, was a four-star recruit in high school. He chose UT over USC, Florida and plenty of others. His reported offer list from high school also included Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon and Penn State.

Here’s what Clint Brewster, a 247Sports transfer portal expert, wrote about Finkley’s high school days:

“(With a) brawny, rocked-up, compact frame, Finkley has a thick lower half that can generate force. (He was a) powerful leverage rusher in a 3-4 scheme at the high school level.

“Also shifts down to play defensive tackle at times. Excellent crossing the face of an offensive lineman and getting an inside rush. Good chase athleticism and lateral movement skills.”
