Kansas Jayhawks football nabs 3-star recruit from K-State’s backyard in Manhattan
The Kansas Jayhawks football program has landed a recruit from the backyard of in-state rival Kansas State.
JJ Dunnigan, a three-star safety from Manhattan, Kansas, announced his commitment to KU during Thursday afternoon’s Under Armour All-America Game in DeLand, Florida.
Dunnigan picked Kansas over K-State, Nebraska and Stanford. He is the Jayhawks’ third high school commitment from the class of 2026.
Dunnigan is coming off a stellar junior season in which he played both safety and receiver at Manhattan High. Last month, Manhattan went unbeaten until the Kansas Class 6A state championship game, in which Gardner Edgerton beat Manhattan 36-33.
On defense, Dunnigan finished the season with 70 tackles, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups. On offense, he had 1,138 all-purpose yards as a receiver, including 557 and five touchdowns receiving.
He visited the University of Kansas campus on Dec. 14.
“On my visit to Kansas, I had an amazing time,” Dunnigan told JayhawkSlant. “They welcomed me with open arms and gave me a tour of the updated facilities and staff, which I was very impressed with.”
