Kansas football vs. Colorado: Five things to know as KU meets Deion Sanders, Travis Hunter

Kansas football plays its last home game of 2024 vs. a red-hot Colorado squad on Saturday.

The Jayhawks (4-6, 3-4 Big 12) beat previously undefeated BYU on Saturday. Meanwhile, Colorado beat Utah. The Jayhawks must win to remain bowl eligible.

Five things to know about Colorado

1. The Buffs have exceeded expectations. Colorado was projected to finish No. 11 in the Big 12 preseason poll. The Buffs (8-2, 6-1 Big 12) are currently tied for first in the Big 12 with BYU.

2. The Jayhawks have a storied history vs. Colorado. The Buffs lead the all-time series 42-25-3. The last time Kansas beat Colorado while hosting the Buffs was in 2010. The Jayhawks won 52-45 in Lawrence; the two squads will face off in Kansas City on Saturday.

3. Colorado has one of the best offenses in the Big 12. The Buffs rank No. 26 in points per game. Colorado has excelled at passing the ball, averaging 322.2 passing yards per game.

4. Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has had an excellent season. He has completed 280 of 384 passes (72.9%) for 3,222 yards and 27 touchdowns through eight games. He’s also thrown seven interceptions. Sanders, son of coach Deion Sanders, finished 30-for-40 passing for 340 yards with three touchdowns and one interception vs. Utah.

5. All eyes are on Heisman contender Travis Hunter, who plays wide receiver and cornerback. Hunter has 74 catches for 911 yards and nine touchdowns as a wideout. As a corner, he has 24 tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble. For reference, Hunter has 30 more catches, 329 more receiving yards and three more receiving touchdowns than Kansas’ leader, Luke Grimm, in each category.
