Kansas men’s basketball forward KJ Adams on Tuesday announced he’s returning to KU for his senior season.

“Never was leaving. #rockchalk,” Adams, a 6-foot-7, 235-pound native of Austin, Texas, wrote on social media site X. He added two heart emojis to his brief statement.

Adams, a member of KU’s 2022 NCAA title team, averaged 12.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in 2023-24 for the Jayhawks (23-11). He hit 60.1% of his shots and 60.0% of his free throws.

Adams had said to a media member, “I don’t know yet,” when asked if he would return next season immediately after KU’s season-ending loss to Gonzaga in Salt Lake City.

Named honorable mention all-Big 12, Adams had career highs in points, rebounds, assists and steals. He had 22 points in a Big 12 tournament loss to Cincinnati and 20 points in a first-round NCAA win over Samford.

Adams joins senior point guard Dajuan Harris as Jayhawks who have said they’ll be back for the 2024-25 campaign. KU thus far has commitments from incoming freshmen Flory Bidunga, Rakease Passmore and Labaron Philon, as well as former Florida player Riley Kugel, who has indicated plans to transfer to KU.

Of this past season, Adams said: “Just the connection I got to make with all the new guys. I just remember when it was just me and Dajuan (Harris) over here. Now we’ve got all these new guys coming in. I’m happy they came and happy that they contributed this year. I’m just really excited that I got to play with them.”
