Will KU Jayhawks’ McCullar, Dickinson play in NCAA tourney? Latest injury updates
UPDATE: Kevin McCullar was ruled out for the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday. Get the details here.
Kansas Jayhawks forward Hunter Dickinson, who suffered a dislocated right shoulder in the second half of KU’s regular-season finale against Houston and then missed a second-round Big 12 tournament loss to Cincinnati, has been making steady progress in his recovery, coach Bill Self said Sunday.
‘“Hunt’ is doing great,” Self said of the senior Dickinson. “He actually practiced the last two days non-contact.
“We’ve done a lot of dry (non-contact) stuff. That way he could be out there. He’ll go contact tomorrow (Monday).”
Self has said Dickinson and senior guard Kevin McCullar should be available for the NCAA Tournament. The Jayhawks open the Tournament with a first-round matchup against Samford on Thursday night in Salt Lake City.
“Kevin … I have not seen doing anything,” Self said. “The entire game plan on him was hopefully Monday he can be good to go. If he’s not good enough to go tomorrow he won’t (practice) and we’ll hope (for) Tuesday. I don’t know as much on Kevin as I do ‘Hunt.’”
Self brought up Dickinson Sunday when asked if the Jayhawks had been shooting the 3-pointer with more confidence at practice since the loss to Cincinnati.
“I think that when we get Hunter back he automatically gives you confidence,” Self said. “He is different that way. He’ll give us more this time of year than ever.”
