Samuel L. Jackson (yes, that one) not impressed by ‘flops’ from KU’s Hunter Dickinson

Kansas star Hunter Dickinson has put together a special season so far, but one Hollywood superstar wasn’t very impressed with his play vs. Tennessee on Wednesday.

Amid KU’s matchup against the Vols, actor Samuel L. Jackson — yes, that Samuel L. Jackson — had thoughts on Dickinson’s knack for drawing foul calls.

“Damn, this Dickinson MF on @KUHoops flops like he’s on a Soccer Pitch!!!” Jackson wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The box score estimated Dickinson drew around seven fouls vs. Tennessee and five vs. Marquette in the semifinal game.

Flopping or not, Dickinson’s play was pivotal in Kansas’ 69-60 win over Tennessee on Wednesday, earning KU a third-place finish in the Maui Invitational.

The star big man scored 17 points and had 20 rebounds vs. the Vols to cap off a stellar stretch in Hawaii. He averaged 20.3 points and 13 rebounds in KU’s three games at the Invitational.

After the win over Tennessee, Dickinson discussed the importance of bouncing back from KU’s blowout loss to Marquette on the ESPN broadcast.

“This was big for us,” Dickinson told ESPN. “The mentality coming in was just make (it) one out of two. We know we dropped one earlier. We just didn’t want to have that snowball — we wanted to come back and beat a really good Tennessee (team) that we’ll use later on in the season.”

Dickinson added that he and his teammates played the tournament in honor of KJ Adams’ mom, Yvonne, who passed away on Friday after battling cancer.

“Kev (McCullar) said it earlier: The whole tournament is for him,” Dickinson said. “Everything we’re doing (and) everything he’s going through — I can’t even imagine what he’s going through right now. But we’re here for him and we tried to go out there and get the win for him.”

The Jayhawks will fly home and get some rest before facing off against Eastern Illinois at Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday.
