Kansas football coach Lance Leipold and his staff have put together one of KU’s best-ever recruiting classes after a flurry of verbal commitments in recent months.

Kansas’ 2024 class currently ranks No. 36 nationally and fourth in the Big 12, according to 247Sports’ class rankings. Still, the class isn’t done yet — at least if any of the class members have any influence over their fellow recruits.

Multiple members of KU’s class of 2024 took to Twitter to recruit four-star linebacker Michael Boganowski to Kansas.

Three-star KU running back commit Harry Stewart tweeted at Boganowski: “Make that move.”

KU’s most recent commit, Dakyus Brinkley, tweeted to Boganowski: “home...” along with the eyes emoji and a graphic of KU’s other commits.

One after another, members of KU’s 2024 class tweeted similar things.

The message was clear: KU’s 2024 class wants Boganowski to join them. The commit group chat, made up of 15 players to this point, has been very active and Boganowski looks to be the latest target.

“Everybody wants Michael to come to KU,” Brinkley told The Star. “It’s not a thing that we had to do, but he’s a player that we want. We want to play with him.

“I saw (four-star safety commit) Damani Maxson do it and that’s why I did it.”

Boganowski, a Junction City native, has offers from Kansas, K-State, Oklahoma and other schools. The hype has led to a bit of a recruiting rivalry between KU and K-State. K-State fans have also joined in on tweeting at Boganowski.

Another wrinkle: Boganowski’s father, Mike Sr., played defensive end for current K-State linebackers coach Steve Stanard years ago at New Mexico State.

Boganowski has stoked the flames on Twitter by responding to KU and K-State tweets with emojis, hinting at interest in both programs.

As for what exactly Boganowski is looking for from his future school?

“Somewhere I have a great relationship with the coaches and the players, somewhere I can develop and somewhere I can play relatively early,” Boganowski told The Star. “At the end of the day, I want to go to a program that can win. I’m a competitor.”

Boganowski has made multiple visits to Lawrence, with his most recent being an official in June.

“I think the biggest (thing) that I took away from my official was just getting around the players,” he said. “They are a great group of guys and they are all bought in. They are ready to go to work.”

Boganowski hasn’t picked an official date for his commitment announcement but hopes to announce it in July or August.

Last season, KU (6-7, 3-6 Big 12) made its first bowl appearance in 14 years, a 55-53 triple-overtime loss to Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl. Boganowski took notice of KU’s turnaround.

“They are on a roll,” Boganowski said. “Their QB1 (Jalon Daniels) got hurt for a little bit and a guy had to step (in), but I think they continue where they left off last season.”

KU’s new winning ways is a big reason why Boganowski is still heavily considering Kansas. The social media campaign by KU’s class of 2024 certainly isn’t hurting either.

“That’s great to see (with) them being my potential teammates,” Boganowski said. “Great to see them reaching out and showing love.”
