Kansas quarterback Ethan Vasko plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Kansas quarterback Ethan Vasko plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, the quarterback announced on social media Wednesday.
“After a lot of consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided that it is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal,” Vasko wrote in his announcement. “This has not been an easy decision and it was made with much thought. I would like to thank Coach (Lance) Leipold, Coach Z (Jim Zebrowski, quarterbacks coach), and Coach K (Andy Kotelnicki, offensive coordinator) for the opportunity to play college football at the Power 5 level.
“With that being said, I will be entering the portal with 4 years left of eligibility. I plan to enter the portal when the window opens on April 15! Thank you.”
The transfer portal window lasts from April 15 to April 30.
The freshman quarterback redshirted last season and was behind starter Jalon Daniels and backup Jason Bean on the depth chart. Still, Vasko played some snaps in KU’s 43-28 loss to Texas Tech.
“He’s doing great,” Kotelnicki said about Vasko in March. “He’s really happy. … He was able to get into the game last year and be in a situation (where) he was the backup quarterback. … His development will be critical for our football program in the future.”
Before the announcement, Vasko projected to be the Jayhawks’ third-string quarterback, once again sitting behind Daniels and Bean, the latter of whom is in his final year of eligibility.
Moving forward, the Jayhawks have a class of 2024 quarterback commitment in Isaiah Marshall — one of the nation’s top dual-threat QBs and a three-star prospect by 247Sports.
Vasko was a three-star recruit (according to 247Sports) from Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA.
According to 247Sports, Vasko also had offers from UConn, Old Dominion, Columbia, Buffalo and other schools before choosing Kansas.
