Kansas, the No. 1-seeded team in the NCAA Tournament’s West Regional, dropped from No. 3 to No. 4 in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll of the 2022-23 college basketball season.

The Jayhawks, who went 2-1 at the Big 12 Tournament, finished behind No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Houston and No. 3 Purdue. Those are the four top seeds for the NCAAs. Alabama received 48 first-place votes to nine for Houston and three for Purdue.

Kansas State checked in at No. 15, down three spots from last week’s No. 12. Missouri improved two slots to No. 23.

Alabama, Houston, Purdue and KU were followed by Texas, Marquette, UCLA, Arizona, Gonzaga, UConn, Baylor, Duke, Xavier, Virginia, Kansas State, Miami, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Saint Mary’s, Tennessee, Indiana, TCU, Mizzou, Memphis and Florida Atlantic.

Others receiving votes: Creighton, Oral Roberts, Kentucky, Iowa State, VCU, Utah State, Penn State, Charleston, West Virginia, Drake, Kent State and Northwestern.

Duke climbed nine spots to No. 12 in the final AP poll. The Blue Devils beat Virginia for the ACC Tournament title. UCLA, seeded second in the West Regional behind KU, fell five spots to No. 7.

The Big 12 had two teams in the top five and five in the Top 25. The league has seven schools heading to the NCAA Tournament. The SEC, which has eight teams headed to the NCAAs (same as the Big Ten), had four teams in the final Top 25. The Big East and ACC had three apiece.
