Two Kansas basketball players named to Wooden Award midseason top 25 watch list
Kansas junior forward Jalen Wilson and freshman guard Gradey Dick have been named to the Wooden Award midseason top 25 watch list, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Wednesday on ESPNU.
KU emerged as one of three schools with multiple players on the list, along with Baylor and North Carolina.
Wilson, a native of Denton, Texas, leads the Big 12 in scoring at 20.6 points per game, which is 11th nationally. He has six double-doubles, which ranks 16th nationally. He averages 8.4 rebounds a game.
Dick, a Wichita native, averages 14.6 points per game, which is 11th overall in the Big 12. That scoring average currently ranks tied for the fourth highest on the Kansas freshman all-time list with Danny Manning in 1985.
Dick has made 46.8% of his threes. He has scored 20 or more points in four games.
Manning (1988) and Frank Mason (2017) are the only two players to have won the Wooden Award, which goes to college basketball’s top player.
The Wooden Award All-America Team will be announced the week of the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented following the NCAA Tournament in April.
