Defensive lineman Bolton is off KU football team

Andrew Bolton, a senior defensive lineman, is no longer with the Kansas football program, KU confirmed to The Star on Thursday.

Bolton, a former top junior-college recruit, began the summer on the official roster, but his name was removed on Thursday. KU officials did not comment on his departure, other than to say he had left the team.

Bolton played in 11 games last season, finishing with 16 tackles, 1 1/2 sacks and 3 1/2 tackles for loss. He projected as a potential contributor as a senior.

He redshirted during the 2013 season, after coming to Kansas as part of former coach Charlie Weis’ touted junior college “dream team” recruiting class. Bolton was the final member of that junior college class on the Kansas roster.

A native of Bolton, Miss., Bolton came to Kansas after two seasons at Hinds Community College. He suffered a major knee injury during the 2012 season, which led to his redshirt year in 2013.
