Kansas men’s basketball jumps three spots in AP Top 25 following 4-0 start
Kansas men’s basketball has jumped three spots to No. 3 in this week’s Associated Press basketball poll. The Jayhawks (4-0) were rewarded for defeating then-No. 7 Duke 69-64 Tuesday at the Champions Classic in Indianapolis, followed by a narrow 82-76 home win over Southern Utah.
KU received one first-place vote in the poll.
North Carolina (4-0) remained No. 1. The Tar Heels received 47 of the 63 first-place votes. Houston (4-0), with nine first-place votes, moved from No. 3 to No. 2.
After KU, Big 12 team Texas (3-0) jumped seven spots to No. 4, while Virginia (4-0), which beat Baylor and Illinois, moved from No. 16 to No. 5. Texas landed five first-place votes; Virginia received one.
Gonzaga, Baylor, Duke, Arkansas and Creighton were ranked Nos. 6 through 10. Indiana is 11 followed by Michigan State, Auburn, Arizona and Kentucky to round out the top 15.
Nos. 16-25: Illinois, San Diego State, Alabama, UCLA, UConn, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Maryland, Purdue and Iowa. TCU was the first team in the others receiving votes category.
Kansas will meet North Carolina State in a first-round Battle 4 Atlantis tournament game at 11 a.m. Wednesday on ESPN.
