The Kansas football team isn’t flying under the radar anymore.

Now that the Jayhawks are off to a 3-0 start that has featured double-digit victories over Tennessee Tech, West Virginia and Houston, they are starting to receive more respect than they have in years ... especially from oddsmakers.

KU opened as an eight-point favorite heading into its next game against Duke. Why is that significant? Well, it’s the first time the Jayhawks have been favored against a team from a power conference since 2009, according to The Action Network.

That isn’t the first streak that came to an end for KU football on Sunday. The Jayhawks also received votes in both of the top 25 polls for the first time since the Mark Mangino era. KU received 23 votes in the AP poll and also got five votes from the coaches.

For the first time in more than a decade, people are beginning to expect good things from the Jayhawks on the football field. It will be interesting to see what kind of crowd shows up in Lawrence for their 11 a.m. clash with the Blue Devils Saturday. That could be one of their best attended games in a while, too.

The Jayhawks have rewarded bettors for trusting in them lateley. They have covered the spread in six straight games while pulling off four outright wins during that streak.

Kansas is the only “local” team that will be favored next week.

Missouri is a 6.5-point underdog heading into its road game against Auburn. Eli Drinkwitz’s team bounced back from its first loss of the season by thumping Abilene Christian over the weekend. But the Tigers are about to face a much more difficult test in their SEC opener.

Missouri is 1-2 against the spread the season. But Auburn is 0-3.

K-State will be a 13-point underdog in its first Big 12 game of the season, at Oklahoma. The Wildcats are coming off a stunning home loss against Tulane, while the Sooners are fresh off a demolition of Nebraska on the road.

The Wildcats are 2-1 against the spread this season. So are the Sooners.
