Former South Dakota State shooting guard Baylor Scheierman has decided to transfer to Creighton, he announced Tuesday on Twitter.

Scheierman, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound junior-to-be from Aurora, Nebraska, had Kansas on his original list of transfer options. He chose Creighton over finalists Duke, Nebraska, Arkansas and Clemson.

“I decided to commit to Creighton because I really like how they play,” Scheierman told ESPN.com. “They are an unselfish team who really share the ball, and that’s what I’m used to and I enjoy playing that way. They also let their guys play free and loose, and I feel like I play my best in that type of system.

“They have a great group of guys coming back that are very talented and know how to play the right way and I think us together can do something special. Also, the opportunity to come home was an offer I couldn’t resist.”

Scheierman, who has entered his name in the 2022 NBA Draft, averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game last season for South Dakota State. He hit 83 of 177 threes for 46.9%.

The Summit League player of the year was was the only player in the country to lead his league in both rebounds and assists.

He hit 50.8% of his shots including hit 83 of 177 threes for 46.9%. He scored at least 20 points in 11 games.

Scheierman will keep his name in the draft pool and work out for NBA teams. He must remove his name by June 1 if he wishes to retain his collegiate eligibility.

“It’s actually funny because there was information getting out that I was demanding this and that,” Scheierman said of name, image likeness money from colleges. “In all reality, I knew NIL was going to be a part of it, but I told my parents at the beginning of the process that if I’m going back to school, I’m doing this to ultimately put myself in a better position for my pro aspirations.”

Players in the transfer portal with KU on their lists are: former Texas Tech shooting guard Kevin McCullar; former Iowa State point guard Tyrese Hunter and former Missouri State combo guard Isiaih Mosley, a good friend of KU’s Christian Braun and Dajuan Harris.
