High scoring Missouri State guard Isiaih Mosley gives timeline for decision
High-scoring Missouri State guard Isiaih Mosley, who entered his name in the 2022 NBA Draft pool on April 6 and NCAA transfer portal last Thursday, says he’s in no hurry to finalize his future plans.
“My timetable will be after May, but I’m not for sure on that. I can’t really give you a date, but as of right now, if I had to say, it would be after May,” Mosley a 6-foot-5, 195-pound senior-to-be told Rivals.com on Monday.
According to Rivals.com, the two-time first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference player has been contacted by coaches from Kansas, Duke, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, DePaul, Mississippi State, Louisville, Florida and likely others. He also has not ruled out a return to Missouri State, where he averaged 20.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this past season for the 23-11 Bears.
He hit 251 of 498 shots for 50.4% and knocked down 70 of 164 threes for 42.7%.
“Really just a school that deals with pros,” Mosley said, asked by Rivals.com what he’s looking for in a transfer destination. “A school that is willing to make their best player run suicides or make their best player get disciplined as much as their worst player. I’m just looking for a good team, a family first team like Missouri State is.”
Mosley, who is a former teammate of KU guard Dajuan Harris at Rock Bridge High School High in Columbia, Missouri and also a good friend of Christian Braun, said of his desired role at his next school: “I would like to have the ball in my hands, but it doesn’t bother me at all if I have to go off of the ball and if I have to do some catch and shoots.”
Mosley — he scored 43 points against Northern Iowa and 40 against Loyola in games his junior season — said he is planning on taking some campus visits. He’s also going to be working out for NBA teams all of May in deciding whether to stay in the draft or drop out by the June 1 deadline for players who wish to retain their collegiate eligibility.
“There was hope given to the Missouri State faithful that he (Mosley) would return after a reported ‘sizable’ Name, Image and Likeness deal was presented to him before the MVC Tournament. That hope went for naught as it appears Mosley is on his way out of Springfield,” wrote Wyatt Wheeler of the Springfield News-Leader.
Other players in the transfer portal witih KU on their lists: former Texas Tech shooting guard Kevin McCullar and former Iowa State point guard Tyrese Hunter.
Schools are allowed 13 scholarship players in accordance with NCAA rules. The Jayhawks currently have 11 scholarship players on the 2022-23 roster in senior-to-be Cam Martin, juniors-to-be Harris and Joseph Yesufu, sophomores-to-be KJ Adams, Zach Clemence and Bobby Pettiford, plus redshirt freshman-to-be Kyle Cuffe and true incoming freshmen Gradey Dick, Zuby Ejiofor, MJ Rice and Ernest Udeh. It’s also possible Braun and Jalen Wilson, who have entered their names in the NBA Draft, could return.
