Kansas’ men’s basketball players’ Barnstorming Tour event Friday at Topeka’s Washburn University has been canceled because of the possibility of severe weather, tour organizer 6th Man Strategies has announced.

Matt Baty of 6th Man Strategies says an email regarding refunds or transfer requests to another Barnstorming Tour event has been sent to individuals who had purchased tickets to Friday’s Barnstorming stop.

The tour will resume Saturday at Hays High School, then Sunday at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park. The tour heads to Rockhurst High in Kansas City on May 6, Dodge City Civic Center on May 7 and Pembroke Hill in Kansas City on May 8.

“Due to the nature of the event, ticket purchasers will be outside for extensive amounts of time waiting for signatures. With weather predicted to hit during the event we thought we would be putting ticket purchasers in a difficult and unsafe position,” Baty said in an email. “We heard from countless purchasers that they were concerned about being outside while weather came in. Also, we have many purchasers traveling in from other cities and we did not want them to risk traveling in poor weather along with the players traveling in and back as well.

“We regretfully made the decision to cancel. At this time we do not have plans to reschedule due to the players schedules. If that changes I will let you know. We do have plans to get the new players along with returning players back out in June and July and will plan on Topeka being a stop for us,” Baty added.

The tour began with a stop last Saturday at Wichita East High School. Information on the Barnstorming Tour is available at barnstormingtour.com.
