Kansas Jayhawks’ Jalen Wilson entering name in NBA Draft, according to sports agency
It appears University of Kansas redshirt sophomore forward Jalen Wilson has decided to enter his name in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Seven1 Sports and Entertainment posted messages on both Twitter and Instagram on Thursday night indicating Wilson, a 6-foot-8 native of Denton, Texas, had signed on as a client of the sports agency.
“We are so excited to welcome @thejalenwilson to the Seven1 family as he enters the NBA Draft process. The future is now!” read a Twitter post of Seven1 Sports and Entertainment on Thursday night. The company also posted a “Welcome to the Family” graphic of Wilson.
The graphic also was posted on the Seven1 Sports and Entertainment Instagram page.
A source close to the situation said Wilson would be allowed to return to school if he removed his name from the draft pool by the June 1 deadline. The agency is certified by the NCAA. Athletes are allowed to sign with agents and still keep their eligibility if their agent is certified.
“He is preparing for the draft, which includes the (NBA) Combine and potentially going to work out with teams,” a source close to the situation told The Star on Thursday night.
As of Friday morning, Wilson had not announced his NBA Draft decision publicly. Wilson has not returned a text message seeking confirmation of his agency’s social media reports. It is likely KU and/or Wilson will announce Wilson’s entering his name in the draft in the near future.
Wilson averaged 11.1 points and 7.4 rebounds this past season for national champion KU (34-6). He averaged 11.8 points a game in 2020-21 after redshirting his freshman season after sustaining an early-season injury. Wilson also entered his name in the NBA Draft last spring, ultimately removing his name and returning to KU for a third school year.
