Former SMU guard Kendric Davis lists Kansas Jayhawks as possible transfer destination
SMU senior guard Kendric Davis, the reigning American Athletic Conference men’s basketball player of the year, lists Kansas as one of seven schools on his list of possible transfer destinations.
Davis, a 6-foot, 180-pound Houston native, who played the last three seasons at SMU after starting his career at TCU, will choose among KU, Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Houston, Gonzaga and Memphis on Friday, he reported Monday on Instagram.
He told Jayhawkslant.com he’s visited Texas, Texas Tech and Memphis. Davis scored four points on 2-of-6 shooting with three assists against three turnovers in TCU’s 77-68 loss to KU on Jan. 9, 2019 at Allen Fieldhouse. Also that season he scored 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting (7-of-11 from line) with seven assists and five rebounds and two steals in TCU’s 82-77 overtime loss to KU on Feb. 11, 2019 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Davis averaged 19.4 points a game on 43.9% shooting last season for SMU (24-9). He hit 77 of 207 threes for 37.2%. He also dished 4.4 assists and grabbed 3.8 rebounds a game.
He was the only unanimous all-conference selection in the AAC.
Davis scored 20 or more points in 15 games in 2021-22. He had 33 points against New Mexico and 30 points in a season-ending loss to Washington State in the NIT. He had 10 assists against Northwestern State.
Davis averaged 19.0 points, 7.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds a game in 2020-21. He averaged 14.2 points and 6.7 assists as a sophomore at SMU after averaging 6.3 points and 2.0 assists a game his freshman year at TCU.
Davis, who has also entered his name in the 2022 NBA Draft, earlier had Louisville, Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and others on his list. He has a super senior season available to him if he decides to remove his name from the 2022 NBA Draft.
KU currently has 14 players on scholarship to fill 13 slots next season. That would dip to 13 scholarships if senior David McCormack does not use his additional year of eligibility and enters the NBA Draft. KU also could lose senior-to-be Christian Braun and/or junior-to-be Jalen Wilson to the NBA Draft.
