Kansas senior guard Ochai Agbaji is one of five finalists for the 2022 John R. Wooden Award, which is presented to college basketball’s player of the year, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Wednesday on ESPNU.

Others who join Agbaji on the Wooden All-America team: Johnny Davis (Wisconsin), Keegan Murray (Iowa), Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky) and Drew Timme (Gonzaga).

The winner will be announced April 5 on ESPN’s SportsCenter. All five finalists have been invited to Los Angeles for the Wooden Award presentation on April 8.

The top 10 vote-getters for the Wooden Award make up the Wooden All-America team. The five Wooden Award finalists are joined as All-America team members by Kofi Cockburn of Illinois, Chet Holmgren of Gonzaga, Jaden Ivey of Purdue, Bennedict Mathurin of Arizona and Jabari Smith of Auburn.

Agbaji is the 25th Jayhawk to be named a Wooden Award All-American. Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson both earned the honor after the 2019-20 season.

KU’s Danny Manning (1988) and Frank Mason (2017) are former Wooden Award winners.

Agbaji, the Big 12 player of the year and the Big 12 Tournament most outstanding player, is also a consensus first-team All-American.
