Watching the Kansas Jayhawks in the Final Four? Here are watch parties in KC, Lawrence
If you haven’t heard by now, the Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team are one win away from playing for the national championship. All that stands in their way is a dance with the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday in New Orleans.
Traveling to NOLA is pricey and it’s not in the cards for everyone. Luckily, you can find watch parties all over Kansas City and Lawrence for the big game. The KU Alumni Association has even put together a map of where to find official watch parties for the Jayhawks all over the country.
“Locally, pretty much every sports bar will be a watch party in Lawrence & Kansas City this weekend,” Nick Kallail, assistant vice president of alumni and network programs with KU, said in a statement. “We will have official events at Chicken N Pickle in (Overland Park) and Social in Waldo.”
Chicken N Pickle and Social are just two of the official watch parties going on nationwide. Non-alums can crash the party, but if that’s not your thing, here are just a few other places hosting watch parties.
ALLEN FIELDHOUSE
There’s no better place to watch the game than in the building where it all started for KU. The doors to the arena will open at 4 p.m. It’s free to enter while there’s space available. Massachusetts Street in downtown Lawrence is also shutting down in preparation for the madness at the conclusion of the game if it ends in KU’s favor.
If you missed out and can’t get in, Bullwinkles or Dempsey’s Burger Pub has your back.
POWER AND LIGHT DISTRICT
Take your pick at one of the bars downtown and have a good time. Whether it’s No Other Pub or Guy’s Dive & Taco Joint, the game will be on. If you can tolerate the weather, you could also find a spot in the KC Live! Block and watch with other Kansas faithful on the big screen above the stage.
Johnny’s Tavern often hosts a strong KU fanbase and will be a prime destination for fans in both Lawrence and Kansas City.
WESTPORT
Much like Power and Light, Westport has a plethora of options to sit down and watch the game. Westport Ale House is packed with Kansas fans during their games and the same can be expected for Saturday’s clash.
