Future Kansas Jayhawks guard Gradey Dick nets Gatorade state player of year award
Future Kansas guard Gradey Dick has been chosen 2021-22 Gatorade Kansas boys high school basketball player of the year, Gatorade announced Wednesday.
Dick, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound senior from Sunrise Christian Academy, is ranked No. 8 in the recruiting Class of 2022 by ESPN.com.
He committed to KU on March 3, 2021 and signed a letter-of-intent with the Jayhawks in November 2021. The Wichita native chose KU over Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Purdue and others.
Dick has averaged 17.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game through 26 games for Sunrise Christian (25-1).
Dick, who attended Wichita Collegiate High School for two years and Sunrise Christian for two years, is a finalist for the Gatorade National boys basketball player of the year award to be announced later this month.
Dick and future KU teammates MJ Rice and Ernest Udeh will play in the McDonald’s All-America game on March 29 in Chicago. He was one of five finalists for the Naismith award.
He will represent the United States at the Nike Hoop Summit in April and was a member of the gold-medal winning Under-18 U.S. team at the 3-on-3 World Cup last summer.
