Former Kansas Jayhawks guard Jeff Boschee hired as Pittsburg State basketball coach
Former Kansas shooting guard Jeff Boschee has been hired as men’s head basketball coach at Pittsburg State University.
The 42-year-old Boschee, who is KU’s career leader in three-point baskets made (338 to Devonté Graham’s 296), worked as head coach at Division II MIAA rival Missouri Southern State University the past eight seasons after spending four seasons as an assistant and associate head coach for the Lions.
Boschee compiled a 151-86 (.637) overall record as MSSU’s head coach. The Lions went 14-15 this past season, Boschee’s first below .500.
Boschee replaces former Missouri player and coach Kim Anderson, who announced his retirement on March 1. Anderson went 64-76 in his five seasons at Pitt State. His teams were 42-59 in MIAA games, 8-20 this season.
“We are very excited to announce Jeff Boschee as our new men’s basketball coach at Pittsburg State University,” Pittsburg State athletic director Jim Johnson said in a release.
”Jeff is one of the top coaches in the MIAA and NCAA Division II and we think under his leadership Gorilla basketball will continue to flourish and grow. This is a critical time in recruiting and I know Coach Boschee is eager to hit the ground running in that regard. We will look forward to hosting a public event later in the month to formally introduce Jeff and his family to Gorilla Nation.”
Boschee directed Missouri Southern to four 20-win seasons and three consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II national tournament between the 2017-18 and the 2019-20 seasons.
He was selected the 2017-18 MIAA coach of the year. His 2018-19 squad reached the NCAA Sweet 16 while posting a 25-8 record.
Boschee played for the Jayhawks from 1999 to 2002. He was named Mr. Basketball in North Dakota in 1998.
